A recent audit of the Department of Social Services claims that Louisiana's child care licensing program falls short. According to the audit, DSS lacks the formal policies and procedures for its licensing program and a plan to enforce minimum standards. The audit also showed that several new day cares were licensed without proof of criminal background checks.
