The numbers are in for 2007, and while crime as a whole in Baton Rouge is down, murder is at a near-record level. According to crime stats released by the BRPD on Thursday, 72 people were killed in the city last year, a jump of more than 28 percent from 2006 when 56 people were killed. Other major crimes like rape, arson, robbery and assault were all down.
