Low academics at LSU and Southern prompted the NCAA to penalize both schools with a loss of athletic scholarships. The Academic Progress Rate was started by the NCAA four years ago to grade the academic performance of teams. Seven hundred teams across the country failed to meet the minimum score of 925, including LSU's baseball team and Southern's football team.
