If lawmakers get their way, less money will be spent on protecting the environment. Should the state budget be passed, there will be a five percent cut to the Department of Environmental Quality, which equals out to a loss of nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Such a cut could force DEQ's criminal investigation division to close.
