State biologists are hoping that extra spraying along the waterways of lower Livingston Parish will help to control duckweed which has become a nuisance for boasters and fishermen. Duckweed, a native Louisiana aquatic plant that floats is reproducing at an alarming rate and is becoming more and more difficult to control. Locals along the Amite River say that the plant is ruining many favored fishing locations.
